John Isner’s Racquet Review

John Isner’s Warrior 100 is perfectly set up to appeal to a big group of players from intermediates through to the more advanced player. At 300g unstrung, the racquet is very manageable weight-wise, and it promises all the things we look for in a modern racket. Maneuverability and spin are key in today’s game and John Isner is certainly using the Warrior 100 to achieve that.

Groundstrokes

The weight is very manageable and the racquet swings like a dream. It gives you easy access to spin. The upgrade with the Textreme material seems to have made this racket much crisper, and it comes together nicely on the groundstrokes.

It had plenty of power, and you would notice that with very little effort your shots will land very deep in the court.

The response is also great from the baseline. The racquet comes through the ball very smoothly, while it still has enough stability to not get pushed around. An extremely comfortable racquet from the baseline.

The response of this racquet felt great from the baseline. I found easy power and spin. It felt fast, yet it had enough stability to not get pushed around. I was also impressed by the feel. The racquet offered a very comfortable response, and I was surprised at how comfortable it felt even when strung with a poly.

Volleys

As many other spin-friendly racquets from the back, volleys aren’t doing as well. It feels a little bit too loose at the net, but that is just something more advanced players would notice.

If you are a beginner or even intermediate player, this racquet will feel just like any other racquet at the net. But, for the more advanced players, it may feel a little loose and you won’t feel as comfortable at the net with this racquet.

What have to be mentioned is that the modern game of tennis doesn’t call for us to be at the net a lot, and when we are it’s normally to finish off a point. Which the Extreme Warrior 100 will do for you.

However, if you are thinking about playing doubles with this racquet. I would highly suggest going for another racquet. Since there are a lot of quick exchanges in doubles and Isner’s racquet isn’t suited for that at all.

Serve

There’s nothing worse than serving with something that’s hard to get moving. However, this is certainly not the case with this racquet. The Textreme Warrior 100 continues to be a very speedy option when it comes to the serve. If you compare the weight of the racquet, with the amount of power it can achieve, there is not many racquets that can compete with the Textreme Warrior 100.

As you improve and become more confident with this racquet, I would highly suggest adding a little extra weight to the racquet, to access even more power, as John Isner did to his racquet.

Overall

I can totally see why Isner still plays with the Textreme Warrior 100. The amount of power that you can achieve with this racquet suits Isner’s playstyle perfectly since most of his game surrounds how much power he serves with. It isn’t the most comfortable racquet at the net, but since John Isner rarely goes for the net, it still makes sense that he uses this racquet.

The racquet is extremely easy to play with and It feels like a beginner racquet, but knowing that a player like Isner plays with this racquet, It’s safe to say that this is a racquet for all levels.

Keep in mind that if you want to buy this racquet just because John Isner plays with the racquet. The racquet won’t feel the same as it does for John Isner. Most pros choose a racquet as a “ground” and then customizes it to suit their play style perfectly.

No one knows what customizations John Isner has on his racquet, except himself and his team. But, regardless of the customization, it will play somewhat similarly and it will look exactly like his racquet.

Final Thoughts

John Isner is a powerful player that needs a racquet that allows him to achieve his tremendous serves, and the Extreme Warrior 100 does the job for him. It makes sense why he uses this racquet, it suits players like him that don’t prefer to win points from the back and rarely go for the net.

John Isner has used the Textreme Warrior for quite some time now and it doesn’t seem like he wants to change his setup in the future.
