Many fans believe that he lacks some star quality, which could be true, but I believe he is just unlucky playing in the same era as the big 3 (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic).

Serving

The first thing I noticed when serving, was the control. I felt extremely comfortable serving with the racquet and I was able to get a decent amount of spin and power. Flat serves felt good and when I tried to mix it up, I was able to get a lot of spin in my serves as well.

When it was time for second serves, I felt very comfortable with this racquet. The control you have with this racquet when serving is extremely good and it gives me that extra confidence on the second serves. I don’t think I have made a double fault yet with this racquet after 5+ hours. Which is very unusual for me.

Groundstrokes

The most important aspect of a tennis racquet is how it performs from the baseline. This racquet certainly did very well from the back. It took some time to get used to the feel and many balls went to the fence at the start. But once I got comfortable with the racquet, it felt quite good from the baseline.

I loved the backhand slice with this racquet, because it allowed me to get a lot of spin while I still felt that I had a lot of control. I wasn’t able to get the same amount of spin from other baseline shots, which was a little disappointing. Although it allowed me to hit deep in court with a lot of power, I would prefer more spin.

Volleys

Once again, the control on volleys was extremely good. I liked the fact that I could punch the ball around the court very easily. It is light enough to maneuver during quick exchanges and just a good racquet for volleys.

If you are a player that likes to go for the net, you won’t be disappointed with the Wilson Blade 98 v7. David Goffin’s racquet is just an all-solid racquet that works for all levels.
